A Rare Piece of Mid-Century Industrial Design
A remarkable piece of mid-century industrial design, this original Philips Infraphil 7529 was manufactured in the Netherlands and introduced in 1954. It was created not as a conventional lamp, but as a therapeutic infrared heat lamp, designed to deliver concentrated infrared warmth for applications such as relieving muscular aches and pains.
Its distinctive cream-coloured housing, deep red infrared glass and sculptural red anodised aluminium handle give it an unmistakable 1950s character. The adjustable construction allowed the heat to be directed toward a particular area of the body, while the integrated wall-mounting arrangement allowed it to be used as a wall-mounted unit.
This example retains its original Philips Made in Holland identification badge and the characteristic red ring of the 7529 model.
Today, the Infraphil is appreciated not only for its original medical function, but also as an exceptional example of Mid-Century Modern industrial design — a rare object where technology, function and sculptural form meet.
