This is an authentic professional marine navigation lantern by Den Haan Rotterdam — the renowned Dutch manufacturer of professional marine navigation and signalling lights. Unlike reproduction nautical lamps made purely for decoration, this is the real thing: built for service aboard vessels.

Original Identification

The original manufacturer's plate reads:

• HEKLICHT / STERN
• Model: 70R-3SM
• Serial: H142983
• Manufacturer: Den Haan Rotterdam

The French designation POUPE also appears on the original plate, reflecting the international marine application of this equipment.

Original Vintage Condition

The lantern has been preserved in its original, well-used condition. The black painted metal housing shows extensive authentic wear, scratches, and areas of paint loss accumulated through its working life. The original instruction plate remains attached:

"Mount this side up – Do not paint – Clean with water only."

We have deliberately not repainted or artificially distressed the housing. The existing patina is part of the character and history of this piece.
